Remember these Removal Tiips

This list will help you ensure your move is as trouble-free as possible. You can print this list by using the FILE and then PRINT buttons right from your browser.

1. Make sure your cartons are packed tightly and securely sealed with tape
2. Write your surname on all cartons and number from 1 - 10 etc.
3. Ensure all items to be dismantled are ready prior to the arrival of the furniture removalist.
4. Check with the manufacturer of your 'white goods' i.e., fridge, washing machine, dryer etc, and be guided by their advice regarding securing bowls/motors etc.
5. Remove hooks from fishing lines.
6. Drain fuel and oil from lawn mowers, edger's, whipper-snippers etc.
7. Thoroughly clean and dry inside of fridge's, freezers and dishwashers.
8. Seek manufacturers advice regarding computer drive, video drive etc.
9. Dispose of all UN-sealed liquids.
10. Dispose of all aerosols cans, flammable fluids, matches etc.
11. Empty gas cylinder from your BBQ.
12. Clean BBQ. surface and surrounds of grease etc.
13. Dismantle swing-sets, play-gyms, trampolines etc, (Put nuts and bolts in a safe place).
14. Wash out rubbish bins and wheelbarrows.
15. Remove pumps, water bottles, batteries etc from bicycles.
16. Empty and hose out compost bins and other rubbish bins.
17. Drain garden hoses.
18. Clean and spray dog kennels, empty and clean fish tanks, bird cages etc.
19. Ensure all loose items are placed in bags or boxes
20. Empty and defrost fridge/freezer. It is advisable to do this 24 hours prior.
21. Be on hand the day of removal or authorise someone to act on your behalf to answer any queries from the removalist
22. Have an advance plan for placement of your furniture
23. Be on hand or have someone authorised for UN-loading at your residence, directing the placement of furniture.
24. Agreed on any moving insurance?
25. Notified your insurance company?
26. Asked for final electricity account?
27. Asked for final gas account?
28. Cancelled all rental agreements?
29. Told your solicitor, bank manager, doctor you are going?
30. Cancelled the telephone and arranged final account?
31. Made/confirmed arrangements for your pets?
32. Cancelled your milk/newspaper and other delivery services?
33. Cancelled subscriptions to magazines/arranged forwarding?
34. Notified your children's school?
35. Confirmed removal date with chosen removalist?
36. Prepared an inventory for yourself?
37. Dispose of unwanted goods?
38. Confirmed safety arrangements for legal documents and valuables?
39. Separated personal items to take with you e.g. keys, documents, money?
40. Remembered to clear the garden/tool shed?
41. Confirmed arrangements for pot plants?
42. Re-directed mail at the post office?
43. Arranged for neighbours to leave adequate parking space for removal vehicles?
